Recently, our Red Team completed an extensive tree works project in Budleigh Salterton for a new commercial client, working within a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) area.

This two-day project required detailed planning, expert execution, and strict safety procedures — all of which our experienced team handled with precision.

Working on a TPO Site: Careful Planning & Compliance

Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) are designed to protect trees that have significant amenity value. As a result, any work carried out on these trees must be carefully assessed, approved, and conducted by qualified professionals.

Before starting work, we ensured that all necessary permissions were in place, and we planned each phase of the project to comply fully with the regulations while meeting the client’s needs.

The Scope of Work

Our team carried out a variety of tasks to improve both safety and the long-term health of the trees on site. The work included:

• Holm Oak – Dead Stem Removal: We safely removed a dead stem to eliminate any risk to people or property.
• Holm Oak – Re-Pollarding: The tree was carefully re-pollarded at approximately 7 metres above ground level, helping to maintain its structure and health.
• Holm Oak – Felling: One Holm Oak was felled to ground level, with all arisings fully cleared and removed from site.
• Sweet Chestnut – Stem Removal: Strategic removal of selected stems improved the tree’s overall structure and long-term stability.
• Sycamore – Deadwood Removal: Major deadwood was removed from the Sycamore to ensure safety for site users and the general public.

Each task required a precise approach to ensure both the safety of our team and the ongoing health of the remaining trees.
