Earlier today, DTG Trees & Grounds Ltd responded to an emergency call-out in Torbay involving a failed Sycamore tree that had fallen across a residential driveway, blocking access for multiple properties.

The call came in from one of our valued repeat clients, who kindly referred us to a neighbour in need. Within the hour, our team was on-site, assessing the situation and securing the area to ensure the safety of residents and passers-by.

Cause of Failure: Dryad’s Saddle Fungus

After inspecting the tree, we identified stem failure as the cause — likely a result of Dryad’s Saddle (Polyporus squamosus) fungus present at the base. This type of decay is known to weaken the structural integrity of trees, often leading to sudden collapse, especially during wetter periods.

Thanks to our rapid response and experienced team, we were able to safely clear the obstruction and restore access for residents within a short timeframe.
