A busy week for the DTG Trees & Grounds fencing and landscaping teams, with two very different garden projects completed, both focused on making outdoor spaces safer, more practical and easier to enjoy.

From a family garden in Teignmouth with a sloping bank, to a new-build property in need of a more usable patio and entertaining area, these projects show how thoughtful landscaping can completely change the way a garden works.

Sleeper Steps and a New Play Area in Teignmouth

One of the week’s projects saw the team transform a family garden in Teignmouth by installing bespoke timber sleeper steps into a sloping bank.

Sloped gardens can be difficult to use, especially for families. Without a proper route through the space, they can feel awkward, unsafe and underused. By building strong timber sleeper steps into the bank, the team created a clear and practical way to move through the garden while keeping the finish natural and in keeping with the outdoor setting.

This type of work is about more than appearance. Properly installed sleeper steps help improve access, reduce slipping risks and make different areas of the garden feel connected.

Alongside the steps, the team also built a new timber sleeper play area, finished with fresh play-grade bark. This created a defined, family-friendly space where children can play more safely. To complete the area, a new swing was installed, giving the garden a proper outdoor feature for the family to enjoy.

The second team completed a full garden transformation at a new-build property.

Many new-build gardens are left with basic layouts that do not always suit how homeowners actually want to use the space. In this case, the existing worn artificial grass was removed and replaced with smart porcelain paving, creating a cleaner and more practical finish.

To finish the project, the team built a bespoke surround ready for the customer’s inflatable hot tub. Rather than leaving the hot tub as a temporary feature, the surround helps it feel more integrated into the garden design, while also improving the overall look and usability of the space.
